Phase 5 - Archaeology and Protected Trees

Council is now consulting on shaping the Rural and Archaeological Heritage aspects of the District Plan. Council is running seven public meetings so that people can have their say about the issues affecting rural areas and the management of archaeological sites and protected trees.

Recently additional archaeological sites have been identified. We are considering whether or not these should be listed in the District Plan. We are also updating the protected trees inventory.

Things to think about . . .

  • Should we protect soil resources?
  • What is an appropriate minimum property size for rural land?
  • How should we provide for lifestyle opportunities?
  • Should we protect soil based activities from non-rural activities?
  • How do we manage effects on the national grid?
  • Are there any significant trees we should manage?
  • Do you have any archaeological sites on your property?
  • Should we manage land use to avoid damage from bush/forest fires?
